The Rule 2000 bilge pump wants a 1 1/8 out hose. Well no one makes 1 1/8 stuff at least available around here so it has been recommended you build up the pump with say tape or shrink tubing and use the 1 ¼ hose which we did on the bilge pup outlet. It now goes to a reducer and then out a smaller hose to the smaller through hole. While this does not hurt the pump it restricts the flow. So we are not getting the full use of the bilge pump. To fix that we are removing the old through hole and valve and installing a new through hole and valve with elbow. This is the setup we got at Marine Exchange as I am not quite sure of the room around the inside of the boat by the through hole and how high the through hole is off the water. There is a different setup if it is less than a foot off the water or more than a foot of the water (through hole).
We will try this out at the boat and see if it works out and modify the configuration as needed.
A new bilge pump idea has come to mind. There is a school of thought that a much smaller bilge pump be used (original bilge pump Jabsco 36600 Series Bilge Pump 8 gpm) to do the water maintenance of the bilge as the hose is smaller and there is less back flush. Also in our case it can act as a vacuum getting out little bits of water. Then there should be a bigger bilge pump which is used for emergency’s when the water gets out of control of the little pump. This switch could me manual and used after the bilge alarm goes off as an emergency pump.
If we follow this system then the through hole we have currently in the boat for the original bilge pump will be fine. We just re-build the pump and hook it back up and to a float switch.
Then the old macerator through hole would be used for the emergency Rule 2000 pump (if it is 1 ¼ inches ID). If not the 1 ¼ ID then it would need replacing with a new through hole of 1 1/4 ID.
This old macerator through hole may also get double duty as the new shower sump through hole because the shower sump pump through hole is under the bed in a most weird place that is not an easy access. Also the shower sump pump is just a small bilge pump in a box and uses a small through hole.
That can be accomplished with a Y valve.
So we can hold onto any cutting of the hull till this plays out. Just need a measuring tape and a bit of time!
Note:
We ended up giving every pump their own through hull and valve.
