Engine room clean up - old insulation, glue removal - 2011

This last weekend Debbie removed all the old insulation and glue from the engine room hatch covers. Not an easy task.

January 2011  - Currently At Marina Cortez Harbor IslandSan Diego, CA

Not an easy task, a lot of elbow grease going on here.
I tried this at home with one in the garage and it was a pain. This is in another post about what I did. After that we decide paint remover would be the least of all evil’s to try to get the stuff off.  We forgot to bring the big paint scraper from the garage but Debbie made do with another smaller one. The one we used to get the sink out, she bent it back into shape.
Before this Debbie went to Home Depot(HD) and got supplies, like a gallon of paint remover and thick brown paper etc. during the week.
She set herself up on the dock across from our boat. A good spot in the shade as it was a worm day.
Debbie wore rubber gloves, heavy duty ones as the light ones fell apart. The stuff is nasty and nasty on your hands.
After only about four hours of work she was done! The engine room hatches came out nice. She washed them off with the hose after wards and a good sanding is all that is need now.
Then Debbie taped up all the finger holes in the hatches (remember we have no Teak and holy sole so no hatch pulls) so that dirt would not be falling into the bilge any more.  Great job Debbie!

We talked with Owen and he asked that we wait until he finishes the deck before adding the insulation to the hatches. Oh OK we said with a grin, we can wait!
