Engine room - cleaning\painting with Interlux Brightside bilge paint - 2011

There was still a lot of prep to do before we could put on the second coat of Interlux Brightside bilge paint white paint. This time we (Debbie) was going to paint all the wood that was not going to get sound proofing on it. Also the whole bilge again.
January 2011  - Currently At Marina Cortez Harbor IslandSan Diego, CA

We scraped off the old insulation in places and sanded and cleaned.  This took a lot of time and effort.

These four hoses are:
  1. Sink drain hose – big black one
  2. PSS shaft seal hose – small black one
  3. Shaft hose – red one (cleaner) one that will be removed from here and go to a heat exchanger.
  4. Bilge pump hose – red one (dirty)
There also will be and engine exhaust hose 2” running up under the sink but of course the engine is not installed yet.
Just because most Freeport owners will never get to see this (and yes you are lucky) here is what under the sink and cabinet next to the sink look like (prepped fro paint).
Here you can see some of the wood that needed cleaning and sanding and cleaning etc for painting. More wood than you would think.
There was one spot on the port side of the lower bilge where the oil would drain down (boat lists to port) and settle. That spot had backed on oil. The paint would not cover it. So seeing as it will probably be the last time we will ever be able to get a hand on that spot we went for it.
Yep, that's me Perl diving with paint thinner and a screwdriver as a scraper.
Sniffing those thinner fumes 😀

We or probably me lost the booties, so Debbie was wearing sock, ratted her out!
