We ran out of satin varnish (not enough for a top coat and holes) and we have just one coat left on the top of the grate. I thought I could get away without doing another coat on the holes but the varnish drooled into the holes so I had to sand them and will add one last coat to them.
Sooo we started the bottom. It had a couple coats on it but there was a lot of drips from varnishing the top. The drips needed sanding off to get a smother surface. We used 80 grit and an electric sanded. Made a mess. The used 220 by hand with a sanding block. Then of course did the regular cleaning method and added a coat of varnish. So one more coast on each side and it is done. We will probably let it sit for two weeks after the top one is on so it sets up well. After all we will be walking on it.
We did get the last coat on the bench on th eboat though.
Also got another coat on the sink trim.
