December 2010 - At Marina Cortez Harbor Island, San Diego, CA
12 volt florescent light.
The previous owner had a florescent light on a pole in the engine room.
It looks like a work light only probably water resistant. It has been under bilge water more than a few times and worked under water. It worked OK but was never really facing where you wanted it when you wanted it. It was hard to move around by its chord. It did however give you light deep down in the bilge where there was none. So fast forward 30 + years and varoom LED lights!
There is a switch on the nav station panel for it “Engine Room Light”. Well we have removed all from the engine room as we re-power. We liked the light idea so much we have decided to light the whole engine room up. LED’s of course.
We found this light string as a good test for our engine room lighting project.
We just ordered one from
If we like it we will do three or four more. They daisy chain together if you like.
We want to see all around the engine and into the bilge and by and around the shaft at a flick of a switch. So if the bilge alarm goes off at knight under way we can light the whole are up quickly. Or any other reason, squeaking fan belt etc.

SeaMaster High Output Strip 30 LED 50cm (20in) White - Dual Lead
We ordered one from yachtlights.com but found a better deal on special at jmsonline.net so we ordered one from there also and we will see if our first order gets canceled as we tried. It is the holiday season and they (yachtlights.com) are now closed till after the new year but it does not really matter because if they work as we think they will we will like I said need four or five.
