Wood rot under galley foot pump - - the water path - 2010

With all the rain we just had we were able to find the leak(s) that were rotting the wood under the galley foot pump. The water was coming from the stern port chain plate and the port forward scupper.

December 2010 - Chip & Debbie 💑 Currently in Marina Cortez ⛵  in San Diego, SoCal

The scupper has cracks going through the gel coat and water was coming in through there. I put silicone around both of them (I siliconed the hell out of them). Later we will repair them correctly but for now we need to stop the leaking!
Scupper area.

The water came down the hull and back of the plywood salon seat and into the lower compartment.

Under the salon seat
It then flowed aft along the channel provided and into the next compartment under the salon seat.
Below the storage are.
Then kept going along the channel provided and into the area below the storage are under the galley counter top. Now this is on a 1978 Freeport.  The boats are the same up to the under galley counter top are. Anyway the are under that storage area is where the engine exhaust hose runs and the water channel connects to the are under the stove. The area under the stove is in the cabinet under the stove in the back. Mostly the water would stop just before the stove and there is a piece of wood that goes to the foot pump. It is kind of a channel in and of itself. Not meant to be but it turns out it works as one. The water would go down it along the wood I guess because the boat then would be leaning towards the center beam.  The water just followed the path.
Piece of wood that goes to the foot pump is to the left of the exhaust hose.
Looking in the piece of wood that goes to the foot pump
Not sure why that wood box type thing is there that goes to the foot pump but well it is.
There was so much water this time from all the heavy rain that we could see water under the salon seat in front on the deck. Also behind the table on the deck.  Good time to find the leaks.
To be optimistic we think the water did not do any damage to the water tank. It did not seep past the rotted plywood. We caught in time. The tank does not leak. God is great etc.!
