We did discover the rot under the Whale galley foot pump was not from the foot pump as I had thought. Damn, because that would have been an easy fix. We re-built the foot pump a long time ago. The water coming out of it when in use in to the galley sink stunk.

We tossed the hoses and removed and re-built the pump. I then kind of dismissed the rot until later. It is later. We could not re-install the foot pump because the exhaust hose was in the way under the sink. Seeing as that was the first item we had to replace when we got the boat, 14’ of black steal re-enforced house that winds under the galley cabinet’s the refer, stove and out into the cockpit lazerett we know it was going to be a bugger . Not only that but it needed to be heated up to get it onto the bronze fitting under the sink and it was a bear to get at. So seeing as we were not needing the foot pump we put it off. Well now that the engine is out the exhaust house is disconnected and the bronze fitting is gone. Also we are getting ready for a new cabin sole. So I started digging around in the rot. Dam if there is not wet areas. I keep thinking it was some hose leaking. Well after removing the engine and most of the hoses it is clear there is not anything around it to cause it to be wet. Bummer cause directly under it is the stainless steel water tank.
That's the water tank!
I had read an article, a review of the Freeport and the guy mentioned that one of his concerns was that a bad deck leak could cause a water tank to rust through. Now how would water get to the tank??? I did not see any possible way. Well now I think I am enlightened. We are still researching this and it rained or stormed last night. That helped us see some leaking. We noticed that the deck behind the table was wet. Also under the cabinet by the salon seat and under the stove in the cabinet. Now how does water get there from the scupper which is we think the only thing that is leaking? There is a story here and we will need to leave it for another day as it is a work in progress. Let’s hope the water tank is in-tack. It seems not to be leaking but we cannot be sure till we get a mirror down were it is sitting. So if we need to replace it, now is the time to replace it if it has damage as the engine has to be out for it to get replaced.
You know just when I think we are making good progress something like this happens and I get over whelmed!
