Smart Phone apps

In the new BoatUS (April/May 2011) magazine it list some smart phone apps. We installed the free Windguru WAP2 app on our Android X phone and it seems to be OK, we have not used it yet.

Also installed the BoatUS free app just in case :)

Text or Email your boat’s location to other boaters
Share your raft up anchorage or favorite fishing hole
Show your boat’s near shore location on Google Maps
Displays your Latitude & Longitude (even out of cell range)
Call for a tow and BoatUS will know where you are
Access 25 BoatUS Services for your boat’s tool bag

And installed the Navionics Mobile app and even paid for it.

We have not tried it yet but with our old Garmin being out of service (broken) we need a chart plotter to get back into the harbor in the fog. This may just be it and at $15.00 that’s a deal!

The most comprehensive features available:
- Show GPS location and POI on Google Maps
- Friendlier chart information retrieval
- New brighter and clearer interface
- Twitter sharing and new sharing interface
- Record/Save tracks, routes
- Capture geotagged pictures of your adventures
- Access the largest database of specialty marine POIs available
- Search marinas and specialty marine POI, with just one click to call
- Check tides and currents, moon phase, sun/moon rise/set
And so much more!

Here is a couple shots of the app on my Android X phone.
