I called Katro Marine and a nice gentleman explained about the supports and the Kato Marine Island Davits. They also use Harken blocks which we have been upgrading to.

So here is a ready made solution for stern rail support!
If you look close you can see a bracket that attaches to the stern rail. It is for re-in forcing the stern rail. The also do not touch the teak making it much easier to varnish etc. No holes in the teak 😀
"There are instances where our standard deck bases will not fit in the required area. Such is the case with the Islander 36. This installation required extended transom bases, and you can see them in the photos. There is, however, an additional charge for these.
Rail height is sometimes a concern - particularly low rails. The range of heights acceptable is listed on the data sheet. However, to facilitate customers with exceptionally low rails we can shorten the davits by as much as 6”, if necessary, at no additional charge. The davits on the Islander 36 Freeport were shortened 5-1/2”.
Both of our davit models can be folded when not in use. Because of this fact, it is important to use one of several options to stabilize the davits when in use, by locking them in an outboard position. You will see that we offer a wide range of stabilizing systems to suit different needs and budgets.
