Stern Windlass

One of the reasons I liked the boat when we went and looked at it was it has a rear anchor windlass. It is a heavy duty setup and the PO used it for anchoring in deep water at the Channel Islands Cal.

The anchor windlass is an old PowerWinch and it is a power up only. That is all that is needed. There is a rode gypsey on it which is used for both the chain and rode. We have not done much with it yet. We do not even know what the rode consist of other than some chain and mostly rode with what looks like a harness.

We did replace the Danforth Anchor with the Fortress #16 we had on the Catalina 30.

We also bought a chain houser that has a lid on it so we can close it and prevent rain form coming into the boat through the cap rail where the original on is mounted. It will take some modifying of the chain guide to do so and has not been used so we have put it off till later.

The windlass sits in the port rear lazarett.
