We called Mermaid again about the AC\Heat and I was asking if the 9000 btu unite would work in the salon. The reason being is the 12000 btu unite is a bit high for the spot we planed on for it. We or I thought the space was higher and 9000 unite is about an inch less in height. They or Brian said basically it may. Of course that means it may not. So in San Diego it would probably work fine. In Mexico it will not work well enough to get the temperature down to where it is comfortable.
We did a rough measurement of the Salon\Nav station\Settee and galley are and came up with these numbers:

Wide 11.5 inches
Length 10.25
Height 6.25
I know about that as I lived on a horse ranch in Arizona in a mobile home. It had AC and the unite would run constantly cooling down the trailer until it was just about comfortable but not quite, then it would blow a circuit breaker. The do it all over again. It never quite got cool enough to enjoy it.
So we do not want that to happen. It will be the 12000 btu unite.
It takes a 16000 btu unite for a 36’ sail boat. We will have a 12000 and 5200 btu unites so that will be a little over.
We will be able to cool just the saloon are or just the stateroom with the Honda 2000 genset. The Honda 2000 will run a 12000 btu unite. That is the max it will run. It could run a 16000 btu unite but it would run (the Honda gen) at full blast all the time.
We could also run at shore power both to cool or heat the whole boat at one time.
So good options and good redundancy.
The 52000 btu unite could also run off the inverter if we needed it too. Say run it off the genset for a couple hours to cool the stateroom off then switch off the genset and let it run the rest of the knight off the inverter.
He was offering up boat show prices again and it was hard to resist. Could be we may bight!
