Insulation installation - screws

Debbie finished off the sound insulation in the engine room this past weekend.
We put a stop on the drill bit at 1 ½ inches. That is the length of the screw. The insulation is 1” thick. The plywood we screw into is ¾ inch thick. We also use a fender washer. So we think we can go about ¼ deep into the insulation which makes the screw and fender washer tight without going through.
Debbie drilled more holes each time till the stop reaches the insulation (the insulation is soft and will not stop the drill from going deeper)  then later uses the drill to screw in the screws to the insulation and then a hand screw driver to tighten them up a bit. All the engine room insulation is in now.

Next will be the battery compartment as it really is still part of the engine room and needs noise dampening. Lastly will be the engine room hatches after the deck is done. These are not sensitive to the engine being installed, no time crunch.
Debbie may have over done the screws like I did when I was putting them in. What the heck too many is better than not enough. We went through another 50 screws and washers, that is a lot. So far that makes 100 total and we are not done. Good ballast I guess :)
