Hooked up Solar Boost 3024iL DUO) , to hot water - 2010

August 2010 - Marina Cortez San Diego, CA
110 and 12v element

The thing with this controller is it’s (BlueSky Energy inc Solar Boost 3024iL DUO) the DUO-option. That means any energy other more than the batteries need of an amount you specify say 20 percent will go to another source like the hot water heater. So instead of the energy from the solar panels that is not being used and being dumped it is directed to create hot water.

You need a new hot water element such as this one that runs off 110 and 12v.

Also the down side is that it takes twice as long to heat hot water as you are only using ½ the element. However if you are on the hook that is not much of a concern nor is it when living aboard I would not think.

At this time we have one 135 watt solar panel installed.

The solar controller will show a green light if the batteries are charging and a different blinking for different stages. It also switches between amp being drawn and amount of batteries are charged. That’s awe have at this time. The link 2000 is not hooked up yet.

Shows batteries at 13.1 state
Shows amp draw at 1.5 amps
