Cetol test

We want to varnish the head floor board and the teak grate. Well we do not want to varnish it we want to use something else. I do not see putting ten coats of varnish on it as it would just be too much work at this time anyway. So we are looking at other options.

A dock mate gave us some Cetol. This is the new stuff which is supposed to look better.

It only requires three coats and no sanding in between! It holds up real well to UV and water.

We tried it on some test pieces of teak we picked up at the marine swap meet in Chula Vista.
We put one coat on. I used a sponge brush.
We did not like the way it looks so we are returning the Cetol. Too bad it is brand new free stuff.
We did not apply the gloss. It is for the last coat if you want gloss.
Back to hunting a product to use, maybe something for teak decks?
