Cap rail caulking - 2011

The cap rail caulking was started. We removed some because we discovered we put caulking over old varnish. Where that happened we removed all the caulking and we removed all the varnish from the cap rail.

September 2011 -  At Marina Cortez Harbor IslandSan Diego, CA

We started to remove all the old varnish to re-varnish the cap rail. That is when we discovered what had happened. Of course it rained. It has not rained for months but put on some 3M 4000 UV and it will rain. No problem as it cures fast but it will take days for the cap rail to dry out to continue this.
Remove old varnish with a heat gun and putty knife and whatever else works. Clean and lightly san. Clean again and again. Use some Acetone to clean just before caulking. Tape it up and then tape up some brown paper. Then stuff in caulking using a putty knife. Smooth out the caulking with putty tool. Remove tape every foot or so. Bing done!
Now we can attach the stern rail support strap for the Kato Marine Island Davits on the starboard side Been waiting until we caulk the rail for convince sake..
Just a little more clean up and it is finished.
