Bow anchor rode for Bruce - 2011

June 2011 - At Marina Cortez Harbor Island, San Diego, CA
We tried to do a chain splice on the stern windlass rode to the 5/16 HT chain but the line is just too big.
Why it was used for the stern anchor is the question. Could be the previous owner got it for free or it doubled as a spare rode for the bow anchor. It is hard to work with though on the stern windlass .

Some new line that fits the 5/16 chain will work much better with a tapered rode to chain splice on it.
They sell it made up or we may get the chain and rode at Downwind Marine and have it spliced at Sailing Supply. We will need to find the best deal 😉
We measured the rode to be 220’ long, this came with the boat on the stern anchor and is in fine shape.  So we will pick up some 3/8 chain and do a chain to rode splice.

It will be used up at the bow for the spare anchor, the Bruce 44# anchor.
It was really nice that the rode fit in the anchor locker.
It could fit even nicer when we flack it to fit the locker. As it is sitting we just coiled it up after measuring it and dropped it in the anchor locker. Of course we will need to add some chain but that can sit on the bottom below the CQR anchor chain.
