Adjusting to boat life in San Diego - 2011

Adjusting to boat life has not been too difficult for us. We like our new surroundings and everyone is nice at the marina.
So far the issues we have are just adjustments. For instance we found a new Yoga class. We have gone twice now and like it. It is in Point Loma - not far from us. We go to Yoga and then would like to get some frozen yogurt afterwards but have not found a place in the area. When we get back to the marina we want to stop for a shower but again we forget our shower bags. You see these are small things that will work themselves out in a little time.
The commute to work is a no brainer and we both drive route 163 in the morning because it is so beautiful. No traffic and I get to see it with my top down as it is always that way till next winter in my Jeep! Soon the doors will come off also!

So far we have enjoyed the park across the street and have had some guest aboard.
It is still a bit cool and a winter bite in the air so we sleep with a space heater and I use an electric mattress pad, well so does Debbie but I have mine on 1 most of the time. Not sure where her side is set at. We are hoping to have one of the AC\Heat unit’s running by next winter so we have central heat. I am a little tired of moving around the portable electric heater. Seems always in the way. Then again not a big deal. The last place we lived had them in the wall, built in electric heaters, so what’s the diff only it is was not under foot. This is San Diego after all.

We have the boat "stern to" in ths slip and it is nice for living on board. The hatches when open block the sun from coming into the boat on our varnish :) etc and it seems a bit easier to get on and off the boat because we are not doing that at the end of a rocky finger pier. Also we are more sociable as we are next to the dock not next to the channel. On the down side there is no hiding behind the dodger when the wind picks up out of the west. Also we have a dock side view not an open channel view. For sailing it is not as nice. It would be harder to dock stern too when coming back. We plan on ramping up the sailing and anchoring out as the summer weather picks up and the stern work is done.

We have decided to have Sundays as no work day, that means no work on the boat. We need to start getting some R&R. For me once we started moving it was work, work, work.  That work, work, work was not only at the day job but getting the “stuff” into the shed but also getting settled onto the boat. We have done all that and then the work was transferred into working on the boat projects. So too much work as I did not stop after the moving was done but got into a work grove. No workaholic for this man please! So one full day off a week, Sunday. Also as life on board gets more into a routine it will get more leisurely.

We have a roller blading night that we also we need to get back into. A boat neighbor of ours skates for the San Diego Derby Dolls. We hope to go see her play soon.

Sunset Cliffs is just over the bluff, we could start a sunset and dinner night or visa versa etc.

As it is now I see more of the relaxing time for me already. Before living on the boat I would go to the boat at least one night a week after work to do project work. Then after traffic died down around 7:00 or so I would drive home. It was about 15 miles and not a nice freeway drive. Now I just have been kicking back and playing the guitar instead of the driving, after all I am already home!

But of course after saying all that some dam thing will break! This time though it will just have to wait till I am dam good and ready to fix it, and not on Sunday!
There I said it 😎
