Pulling and replacing the mast, replacing some needed standing rigging all put some stress on the chain plates as far as we can tell.
March 2012 - Currently at Marina Kona Kai Shelter Island San Diego, CA
The chain plates are in good shape but now one of them leaks water. And of course it leaks right on top of Debbie’s side of the bed. Sooo to fix that we needed to re-bed the chain plate. We actually need to re-bed all the side deck chain plates but were waiting for better weather. One we spread silicone over it and it stopped leaking as a temporary fix.

In retro spec we should have done this while all the rigging is off. We had a lot to think about so this did not make into the mix.
The only hard part about this so far is the darn cover. It does not go up very far off the deck so digging out the old stuff was made a bit harder. Not enough to take off the side stay though. Not at least this time but maybe next one.
We can see why it leaks, the old sealant was well just old.
Cleaned it all out with a pick and razor knife for top and #220 sand paper.
It cleaned up nice and now to let it dry out good.
Debbie put some plastic as a type of umbrella over the side stay and we placed a rag over the hole at night to keep it dry.
We placed a couple long screws under the top to keep it raised up so it would dry out good.
