Garmin GMI™ 10 Marine Instrument working! - 2012

The first order of business was to put water in the batteries. Dam wet cells ๐Ÿ˜ So why not make it more complicated, that’s what I am good at ๐Ÿ˜Š

March 2012 - Currently at Marina Kona Kai  Shelter Island San Diego, CA

Seeing as we need to open up the settee to get at the batteries and we want to clear a space for the Mermaid Marine Air 12,000 BTU ac HVAC unit under the salon seat lets run some mast wires up to the nav station.
Our Mermaid Marine Air 12,000 BTU Mermaid AC\Heat unite is in our storage shed and they are raising the rates and if we can remove the AC unit we can down size the storage shed.
To route the wires of course means drill more holes. Out comes the drill and hole saw.
New hole by white 10\3 wire
The first hole is under the salon seat and will also be used for the AC sea water intake cooling line.
The next hole is in the cabinet by the settee.
Here we use the handy dandy drill chuck Debbie got me as there is no room for a standard drill.

New hole.
Wires routed, Garmin GMR 18 HD Radar power and antenna cables, wind sensor cable and hailer speaker wire.
We will probably need yet another for the water maker but that's another project and we are not sure where the hole would go.
And yet another hole got drilled by the batteries under the settee.
Where the Mermaid Marine Air HVAC is going to go. Still needs some more clean up.
Sattee - routing wires.
The settee is where we are storing the Mermaid Marine Air 5200 BTU ac unit till it is mounted in the stateroom.

Each set of wires like to be run in separate spaces. The 120 volt wants it's own space, the DC and the instruments do also. This is a sailboat and we do not have that kind of space. We will see if there is any interference in the radar etc and if so shield the wires.

We got the wires run as far as they would go.
Now time for the fun stuff!

Oh ya we got the water in the batteries also๐Ÿ˜€
This is on engine data and we will not have that sensor
Still on engine data.
The GMI™ 10 Marine Instrument is a instrument display and we are using it as a repeater in the Nave station. That means we can display the data from the sensors such as the wind sensor on top of the mast or the depth sensor in the hull.
A different view of engine data.

Another view type of engine data the GMI™ 10 Marine Instrument in demo mode.
We only have one sensor working at this time and that is the wind sensor.

The Garmin GMI™ 10 Marine Instrument allows us to set alarms such as an anchor alarm.

The wind sensor will tell us:
  1. Apparent wind
  2. True wind
  3. Wind speed
  4. Air temperature
And possibly more but I know of those.
On the GMI™ 10 Marine Instrument you can customize the screens for each sensor. The screen you see in the video for wind data is just one choice.

Buoyed with this success we tried to get the Garmin GPSMAP 740 chartplotter working but need a cable.
