Kato Marine Island Davitt shorting - 2011

Our  Kato Marine Island Davits need to be shortened for our Islander Freeport 36' sail boat s\v Elegant'sea

May 2011 - Currently At Marina Cortez Harbor IslandSan Diego, CA

We are going to bring them to Benchmark Custom Welding for a quote on Monday (5-16-11) 2825 Dickens ·San Diego · (619) 523-1387 (old address)
"When shortening the davits, cut off the base about 1/8" above the weld.  Remove the inner tube.  Measure from the bottom of the davit up 5-1/2", cut the davit and re-weld the inner tube in place.  Now re-weld the ball/socket to the davit.  It is important to re-weld the inner tube in place before welding the bottom (do not discard this tube)."
As you can see in their picture of a Islander Freeport 36' with these Kato Marine Island Davits mounted they are shorter than they come from the factory. Kato Marine the manufacturer suggests shorting them by 5 -1/2 inches, so we will.
 Note:
After two re-installations we did of the Kato Marine Island Davits in Mexico we realized that the davits actually had to be longer to accomplish what we wanted. That is to be able to open the stern steps while the dinghy is up and to have the dinghy out of harms way while sailing in bigger seas.
