Stateroom Mermaid 5200 AC\Heat FX-1 Digital Comfort Control Thermostat place created - 2012

While the bed headboard cushion is removed for work we are installing the stateroom Mermaid Marine Air 5200 BTU AC\Heat FX-1 Digital Comfort Control Thermostat.
First off the dorad hose (1978 Islander Freeport) hose comes down just behind the spot where we want to cut the hole and mount the digital thermostat.  So we do not gut it up opr cut up some wiring we have snaked up through there we had to be more careful than usual.

Because of this the options are limited for cutting out the are for the FX-1 Digital Comfort Control Thermostat.
We elected to go with a drill bit and a stopper on it. We set it to ¾ inch, just enough to break through the veneered plywood. We then drilled many holes all around the are we marked for removal.

After all the holes were drilled we then used a hand hack saw blade to cut the areas in-between the holes as best we could.
Then we used a chisel to pry out the wood are that was to be removed.
 It all went well.
It was pretty rough looking and I forgot the memory stick for the camera so no pictures.
At this point the hole was too small for the thermostat to fit in.
We then used the multitool Debbie had gotten from Harbor Freight to use on the cap rail calking. We put a blade that same with it on and it trimmed up the sides and top of the hole real nice. I did nick the 10\2 wire we had snaked up the dorad hole for the CPAP machine but it is repairable.
Working the corners free of wood.
We tried
We had to keep moving the dorad hose and wires out of the way.
To get the thermostat in we had to press the dorad hose hard to the right and will need to stake it there so it does not move. For staking the dorad hose and the wires so they do not move we will use some Home Depot spray foam. A little dab will do ya.
At this point we were getting tired. Remember this is all done after a full work day.

Next it is snaking the thermostat cable from the FX-1 Digital Comfort Control Thermostat to the hanging locker where the Mermaid Marine Air 5200 BTU electric panel will be.

The FX-1 Digital Comfort Control Thermostat is easy to reach from the stateroom and the bed. It is mostly our of sight but may show up some in the mirror at the bottom of the bed. It was the best place for us to have the  thermostat.

Once the Caframo Bora 12V Marine 3 Speed Fan is in and the bed headboard cushion is back in it will also be hidden more.
