Autopilot support installed

Autopilot Jim came by with his helper and fiber glassed in the ¾ plywood support piece for the under deck Garmin class A autopilot.  We will through bolt the Garmin autopilot from the cockpit to the other side of this plywood.

He also added a hull brace for the plywood.

This drive unit creates a lot of force so the plywood is braced by the wood not the hull. The plywood is glassed under the cockpit sole port side.

We did end up having to pull all the wiring, bus and terminator block down from under the cockpit sole for the job :( .

Autopilot Jim :)

Jim at rest.

Jim mixing up some West Systems for his helper.

Then I discovered he lived here one dock away. We had chatted once about some posts I had made on Sailnet.com’s forum. He had asked if I was SanDiegoChip and yes I was!
So now it is getting the template back from Dynamic Dave and size it up as the next phase in this project.

Our closest neighbor, the helper.

These guys do good work.

Jim's double endear Tayana 37' sloop another Bob Perry design.

Jim lives on a boat at our marina with his wife and. At first we were going to get Kemo to do the work but Rocco the Rigger said he was available. That there was this guy named Jim who did good work and was a straight up guy. That seems to be the case, no non-sense and employed a helper who did the glassing work.

The bow of our neighbors center cockpit sloop, looking over this 1968 Cal in perfect condition.
Cal John owns this :)

Jim's helper is also our dock neighbor and lives two boats over with his wife and two kids and dog. We got the whole neighborhood involved here :)

They removed the scupper which was beat up so we are replacing it.

This is some real heavy fiberglass matting they put over the fiberglass cloth.
