Shade screen for the stern - 2010

We re-did our shade screen for the aft cockpit. It was made (Debbie made it) for our tent setup before we got the bimini. So we had to add change the “Dot Common Sense fasteners” female ones on the shade screen to match the the bimini “Dot Common Sense fasteners” male ends. Not a big deal just another time consuming project with lots of climbing around the cockpit. You know life as usual.

July 2010 - Currently At Marina Cortez Harbor IslandSan Diego, CA

Now we need to remove the old female fasteners from the shade screen and cover the spots with some Sunbrella so it is not so busy looking with fasteners. Also the ends need to be cut and re-hemmed.

The shade screen offers protection from (in our case the morning sun) as we have a windward slip facing west as I say, as the compass says maybe South West? So any way you can see in one photo how it takes the glare off the water and the general outside. It also gives the cockpit a bit of a homey feeling and say coziness or a bit of false privacy?

Any way we like it. I doubt we will add any more but who knows.

South of the border they say you want the entire breeze you can get and this shade screen blocks 70 percent of the sun and some breeze. We also have a piece we can mount anywhere around the cockpit that blocks 90 percent of the sun. Great for the days at anchor when the sun is on your side of the boat and you want to read in the cockpit or whatever.

We have seen boats with them rolled up on the side of the bimini like blinds. Seems like a god storage place.
