Refer build, measuring for insulation - 2010

October 2010 - At Marina Cortez, Harbor Island San Diego, CA
Refer to the right.
Saturday we did a mockup of the refer box with added insulation. We also visited a dock mate once again who built his refer box and put in the Frigoboat refrigeration..

We stuck a coat hanger type of wire right through the refer box as I thought the box was fiberglassed on both the inside and outside. No such thing! The outside is just insulation. We were using the wire to measure the insulation depth.

The surprise is that the refer box has three inches of insulation. We knew it keep ice for a long time but we thought it had one inch of insulation.

The drawers in the galley are right next to the insulation so there is no adding any there. On the lazarett side it is plywood next to the insulation so no to adding any there. And the other side is the hull and the galley side is plywood. There is a small space behind the drawers that we can add some, and underneath there is a little room.
Behind galley drawers.
So we I think have decide to add 1” to the two side we need to enter the refer from. The hole to bring things in and out of the refer. You can by the blue tape the difference. One is 2” blue tape the other is 1” blue tape.

Two inch blue tape.
We also did a freezer mock up. Debbie made an evaporator flat plate out of cardboard the same size as the one our dock made has. We liked the size of his. We then held it place to decide if it would work for us. We liked it.
