Got a genuine Bruce 44# anchor - 2010

October 2010 - At Marina Cortez Harbor Island, San Diego, CA
We have bought a genuine Bruce 44# anchor off Crag's List San Diego for our boat.
The anchor we had previously purchased was a Lewmar 44# claw . We needed a claw anchor so we could fabricate the bow rollers. We thought it would also work fine it the anchor roller but no deal. The anchor roller for the spare anchor is made for a Bruce and even though the Lewmar claw anchor is close to a Bruce it is not the same thing by far. The lewmar claw is shaped a bit different and is molded in China and has a much wider shank.

At one point I bought a shackle and tried to pound it onto the Lewmar but only ruined the shackle. Could not get the pin to fit and probably destroyed any temper the shackle had.

The shank was the problem. I could not find a shackle to fit through the roller and also fit on the Lewmar.

The Bruce 44# anchor was forged and made in Belgium I think. It has a narrower shank and so we found a shackle to fit it. We did not find a galvanized shackle to fit but a SS shackle and we need to use two as we have 3/8 BBB chain. We will need to have a chain to rode splice on our rode.

Plan on using 50’ of 3/8 chain and 250’ of 3/8 rode.

Will not fit on Lewmar 44# claw anchor.
