Gold Coast Cruisers’ Net VHF Controllers Guidelines - 2013

February 2013 – Bahia de Navidad - Marina Puerto de la Navidad(Barra Marina) Mexico.
My first time AT Net Controller.

Gold Coast Cruisers Net covering the area from Tenacatita down to Manzanillo.
Tenacatita
Cuastecomates & Melaque
Isla Navidad & Cabo Blanco Marinas
Barra Lagoon
Manzanillo area.
Debbie has become the “Net Girl”. She has been the Net controller a few times now and is giving the Tides data each day also. I have been lagging. I did the Net control thing once and will do it again this week to try to catch up with her J. It is kind of fun and you do give back to the cruising community by volunteering. Each day they need a new Net Controller except for Sunday.
On Debbie's last Net she had 31 boats check in, lots more just listing.

Controllers Guidelines

Good morning and welcome to the Gold Coast Cruisers’ Net - covering the area from Tenacatita down to Manzanillo. Will everyone please switch to high power as we listen for any emergency, medical or priority traffic.

This is [your name] aboard the vessel [boats name] along with [name of others aboard]. Today is [day of week, date].

This net meets Monday through Saturday at 9 AM local time. This is a friendly – controlled net. When you come to the net, please give your boat name only and wait to be recognized by net control.

Do we have any new arrivals? [If there are, then say:] Please tell us about yourself - give us the story: who’s on board, where are you from and a little bit about your plans.

Do we have departures? Anyone leaving the area today or boats underway?

Let’s go ahead with check-ins, please come with your boat name and I will repeat it so you know you’ve been heard and counted. Let’s start with Tenacatita, Cuastecomates & Melaque, Isla Navidad & Cabo Blanco Marinas, Barra Lagoon, Manzanillo area.
Any land based check-ins? Come now.
Any other last minute check-ins anywhere? [Give a count of the number of check-ins].

Does anyone have the tides and or weather this morning

Mail Call. Are there any vessels holding mail for another vessel, or is there anyone who can carry flat stamped mail to Canada or the U.S.?

Crew Positions. Anyone needing crew or anyone wanting to crew?

Lost and Found. Anyone lose or find anything?

Let’s move on to General announcements. Any general announcements?.

Don’t make the following announcement every day – twice a week is sufficient] Please note that in this area VHF channel 22a is the cruisers’ hailing channel. When you move off to another frequency, you should stay off of VHF channels 16, 17, 18, 23, & 71 for normal chatter. VHF channels 17 and 18 are Manzanillo vessel traffic, channel 23 is water taxi aquatico 24/7, channel 71 is a new water taxi service. Please use low power on channel 21. Also, while the cruisers single-sideband nets are on between 7:45 and 9 am please refrain from using Winlink or Sailmail.

Local assistance or services offered or needed.
Treasures of the bilge. Anyone have anything to swap of trade? Remember we cannot sell anything in Mexico, we trade for "coconuts".

Open category - Is there anything I forgot or you would like to back up to? Anything else for the net?
Can we close with trivia - anyone have any joke or thoughts for the day?

We are in need of a net controller for tomorrow. It’s easy and fun. We have net controller guidelines and can give or e-mail one to you! Any volunteers?

That’s the end of the Cruisers net for today. Please remember to switch back to low power. Thanks everyone - this will be [Boat’s Name] clear. Channel 22 is now open.
