Re-furbishing anchor rode for spare rode - 2015

July 2015 - At private slip in Nuevo Vallarta in Banderas Bay, Mexico
Here I am wire brushing our old 55' of 3 BBB chain.

Previously at Paradise Village Marina we cleaned and protected the chain and rode.
Paradise Village Marina wants cardboard down on the dock before putting the chain on it. We see why, if not the dock gets all rusty. Paradise Village Marina is good at keeping the docks clean, washing off bird poop and having trash cans around. No need to drop off the trash at a dumpster. It is the little things that also make Paradise Village Marina nice.

Cleaning and wire brushing the chain.
Debbie helped do the OSPHO painting. OSPHO is a metal treatment.
Then every inch of the 3 strand rode got washed.
Then Debbie painted the whole chain with Interlux two part primer paint we got from SYS chandlery at .Paradise Village Marina This took quite a while. A day or so later we did some touch up and then stored it all away in our chain locker. This will be our emergency back up rode for next cruising season as we have purchased 125' of new 3B Acco chain (recommended by Lewmar for our Lewmar H3 Anchor Windlass) and it will be enough to get us through next season with the 8 plat rode attached. Then it will become the back up as we will purchase 200' (or more) of 3B Acco chain and rode for our main rode..
"Acco chain is hot dip galvanized, which is superior to the zinc electroplating used by most other U.S. chain vendors. When comparing Acco chain to other brands, be sure to ask if other brands are “hot dip.” Remember that the Maximum Working Load (MWL) is a conservative rating for safety and should not be exceeded, although the breaking strength is generally 3–4 times greater. We sell Acco chain by the foot in lengths up to the size of the standard pack. BBB is made of low-carbon steel, but has calibrated links (shorter than the links of Proof Coil chain) that are compatible with many windlasses. Unless indicated otherwise, BBB chain offered herein are manufactured to I.S.O. specifications. Made in USA"
