Arrived at our new marina Kona Kai in Shelter Island San Diego! - 2011

November 2011 Marina Kona Kai San Diego, CA
s\v Elegant'sea is Ready to leave our Marina Cortez . This marina is a good place if you want to do extensive work on your boat like we did.

The dish ended up not going with us
Our entry went smooth but we were not sure how it would go. There is not a finger pier between boats in this marina. So two boats share a space. The fairway is huge though. There are also some larger 50’ or so boats in this slip area so the fair way is big enough for them also. Our old slip was 35’ and a tight fit. We had to have flat fenders so we could fit into the slip. The fair was very small with boats sticking into also. This slip is 38’ and there is lots of room. Nice!
We moved into our new home Marina Kona Kai in San Diego. This is a nice marina to live on your boat.
We took a shower and again what a difference. The showers have rain shower heads and are real high. There is a private dressing area for each shower and a nice stainless steel shelf in the shower for your needs. The tiles are nice and clean etc. These rest rooms have been remolded recently. The toilets have auto flush and the sinks are all new etc. Not so at our last location. Every one taking a shower shared the same small bench for putting you gear on and there was a very small shelf in the shower for your gear. The tiles were falling off the walls and floor and moldy. The toilets were in tough shape. They replace them but with cheap ones. Any way that is what we wanted was a upgrade in our standard of living.

We were at our old marina for eight years and had made many friends, that was the only part that was hard to give up. Some left (cruising etc) so that did make it easier to move.
The marinas are hurting for business and are competing for it now. This has not always been the case. When we foist got our Catalina 30’ sail boat they were full and could care less about you or the high pricing.

We had called our current marina once way back and there was a long waiting list for a live aboard slip and some of the features of our current slip were not included. This time they sweetened the deal and there was no waiting list. Now that’s how we like it! And to top it off we pay less! They gave us access to the hotel amenities like the pool and the gym which is usually not included in the marina fee. That is for one year but we are living on the Baja Ha-Ha in a year!

Now we are sure there will be some issues but we are on our marina honey moon 😎
