Solar panel bimini mock up - 2011

August 2011 - At Marina Cortez Harbor Island, San Diego, CA
I grabbed some electrical conduit out of a dumpster by work and cut it to the length of the Kyocera Solar KD-135GX 135 Watt12 Volt Solar Electric panels.😁
Debbie brought home some cardboard from work and we measured it to be the same size as the solar panel. We then taped it to the conduit pipe with duct tape.
We played with the stainless steel 1” tubing mounts for a while and then ended up cutting off 2 ¼ inches off the front two vertical stainless steel tubes. This proved to be too much. We will need to get some more stainless steel tubing to continue. We need some for the Air Breeze wind generator supports and the Bimini struts we want to put up.
This is the starboard side.

sitting bow down a bit (1/4 inch).
Looks like enough clearance for the wind generator
We think about 1 ¾ should be the correct height for the front vertical support tubing. It is not that critical, all cosmetic at this point. It could be a little facing down at the bow end would be good for getting sun and shedding water but for ascetics we would like them relatively flat.
From stern.
One (same size) on top our dodger.
Neighbors same size panel.
The solar panel (fake one) looks surprisingly small on top of the Bimini.  I was very surprised. I had to re-measure the size a couple times to be sure. Our boat neighbor just installed two on his rail and they look real big. Just the size of the Bimini being big makes the difference.
