Anchor chain rubbing on bow roller - 2011

August 2011 - At Marina Cortez Harbor Island, San Diego, CA
Over the roller with chain hook on the chain.
We ran a anchor chain test to remove the stress of the chain rubbing on the edge of the anchor roller as it goes out and comes into the anchor locker.
By running the chain over the roller that is inside the anchor locker instead of under it does not scrape as bad.
It still has a satisfactory factory wrap around the chain gypsey on the windless but not as good as before. It would need some anchoring testing to see if it would slip off or not. The chain still rubs against the edge of the roller. It is going to still need some modifying of some kind.
Perhaps a roller just before the chain stopper as there is already a bracket there holding the roller we are going over now. The anchor locker cover needs to close so that’s a problem with this idea. Perhaps it could be put into place and held there with a pin so it could be removed before closing the lid.
Or perhaps a roller just before the bow roller. There is an access plate there which presents a problem.
More engineering needed 😊
