New bow LED running lights installed - 2010

September 2010 - - At Marina Cortez Harbor Island, San Diego, CA
Old running light.
We temporarily installed one of the new Hella Marine - 2NM NaviLED Deck Mount Port and Starboard Pair.
The starboard green one. These are US Coast Guard approved and have a 2 nm range. That was the one of our original ones that I could not easily find a new bulb for. It was a straight forward installation. Of course I was trying to cover old holes and I had to dig out some of the old hole filler. They need to angled correctly and that is what we spent most of the time on. After turning it on we saw some water vapor inside the lens. I am currently in talks with Apex lightings’ support about this.
There is not a very big gap under the light from the light to the cap rail in the front or the back that will need to be filled.

Later when it was dark we turned the running lights on just to see how it looked.
It shows the difference in brightness. You can see the green light on the cement piling near or bow which looks kind of blue in the picture..
We are standing on the port stern cockpit are looking forward in the above picture.
At the bow, green is the new Hella Marine 2 nm range running light (2NM NaviLED Deck Mount Port and Starboard Pair). On the right (port) is the old nav light.
Looking into the light
The red, seems dull after looking at the green.
With the cameras flash on.
On the cap rail.
You can see some condensation in the light.
After running for three hours there is still some water on the lens.
These lights are small - about the size of my cell phone
The light fit the old spot real good. Best fit I could find in the LED running lights for our boats.

It is BRIGHT! It is way brighter than the old running light.

These new LED lights are Coat Guard approved for two nautical miles and I believe you can see them far longer.
