Chain Galvanizing Mexico
Thought this might be of interest to the group in Mexico.

A number of years ago cruisers use to pool their chain and anchors and Marina Mazatlan would coordinate a truck to take it to Culican. That facility has since moved to Mexicali.

Volo shipped a length of chain(via BajaPak) from Santa Rosalia to Mexacali last year and were pleased with the results. Since we have over 300' of 3/8 chain and numerous anchors the shipping cost was almost as much as the galvanizing

We recently took the boat to San Felipe and on the way back SD we dropped the chain off at Fetesa in Mexacali. It's a HUGE plant. We will bus back to Mexacali, rent a car and drive it to the boat in SF.

Chain cost per pound .35US including stripping and galvanizing versus .75US for the same in San Diego, $1.65 a kilo in Ecuador. The time it takes to complete the process is about 4-6 days. It is NOT tumbled or shaken like most facilities but they have the option to use compressed air or no air at all.

Miguel speaks excellent English and was very helpful. Be sure to ask for him if you call.

The downside was trying to arrange transport from San Felipe to Mexacali which is about a 2 hour trip with maybe 25k's over dirt rutted road(being repaved). Then you have to go thru the same thing again to get it back. You have to go to Mexacali to rent a car since SF does not have a car rental agency with cars to hire. We hired a nice local couple with a van but it was not cheap.

If you are driving north from other locations in Mexico back to San Diego then a swing thru Mexacali might work for you. It's a short jump to the border at Calexico
