There are lots of straps on our boat cover and some are real long because it was made for us to customize if we like. We live on our boat and with our nice big windows watching them blow around, make noise or get dirty on the deck we decided to shorten them to fit for our viewing pleasure. To do this we chose the C.S.Osborne & CO. sewing awl we have. The clips will slide off if there is nothing to stop them. Some we can tie a stopper knot but the rest need cutting and we fold it over a inch or so and sew it with the awl. No need to remove anything. There are lots of video's on youtube.com AWL for how to.
