These are Barient 28 winches.
John from S|V Emerald Lady cam by and I asked him about servicing the winches. He has done his and said it was not a big deal. He showed me the place to unscrew and it would usually take a spanner wrench but not really.

I used a rag on the hole with a punch and glass hammer and the nut turned just fine, at least it did on the one winch I tried. When Debbie gets back we will put this on our list.
We had a hard time last cruising season with our genoa and furler rigging n blocks etc.

Cut a hole the size of the winch in the bottom of a cardboard box, then slip the box over the winch so the hole is on the bottom. If a part falls off while working on the winch, it will fall in the box and not go over the side.
