Our PYI PSS Type A Shaft Seal has been on the boat since we bought her and for however long before that. Not knowing how long it has been on the boat before we bought her we decided it would be time to buy a PSS Maintenance Kit..

"PYI recommends that the bellow be replaced once every 6 years. During the bellow replacement it is also recommended that the o-rings & set screws in the stainless steel rotor are replaced, as well as the hose clamps. PYI includes all of the necessary replacement parts in the PSS Maintenance Kit."
We have a 1 1\4 inch shaft and our shaft tube size is 2 3\8.
At least another Islander Freeport 36 owner, who had a Perkins 4108 as we had and a 1 \14 inch shaft as we have, said his shaft tube size is 2 3\8". I think around 1980 when Islander Yachts changed to the Pathfinder VW engine they also went with a 1" shaft size but I am not sure.
Also we talked to the people at PYI and they said the seal can be stretched to fit. If it needs to be stretched even further you can take out the inside rubber collar and then use a hose clamp to tighten it.
