Cutting head cabinet door behind toilet - 2010

November 2010 - At Marina Cortez Harbor Island, San Diego, CA
I think I failed to mention or at least did not explain the head cabinet door over the toilet.
We decide on a house hold size bowl for our toilet. Because the toilet sits on a pedestal already (the Fiberglas step) we need to get a short pedestal on the toilet and the house hold size bowl still came up past the bottom of the cabinet door.
The solution here was to cut off the door.
We went over to “D” dock where Paula was putting in a new deck in her boat. She had a table saw in the cockpit and cut the door across the bottom at an angle for me. That way it is real hard to tell it is even cut.
We then reinforced the door with a couple of screws and it swings past the toilet.
The door itself is still not finished varnish wise or hinge wise. The door was my very first varnishing project The hinges were in bad shape so I bought new ones and they did not line up so fill and drill. The latch did not line up. Then we decide to switch from a water based varnish to a oil based varnish. We had been going around with the varnish type. The water varnish came out lousy on the port hole teak spacers so we went with oil. Problem is the door has a couple coats of water based on it.
Because the door still work (opens and closes) I left it for later.
We have not installed the bottom cut off piece yet (it is varnished up) till the door is done.
Later is approaching. We are getting close to being done in the head.
Here is the cut off piece before varnishing.
