Anchored in Chacala , Health Care in Mexico - good and real reasonable - 2013

Early January 2013 - Anchored in Chacala, Mexico

When we were in Chacala and took the bus to the nearest town. The bus was really a van with a few other people in it. We were going the six mile to a larger town and sparked up a conversation with another woman who was staying there for three months. She said she was coming to Chacala  for some years now after having some serious dental work done. She escapes the nasty part of the New Hampshire winters there. She was saying that a person told her of the dentist in  and that the dentist assistant speaks some English. She had her whole lower jaw bite re-worked and all her lower teeth crowned. It cost her less than the stay for the month it took for the work and she is very happy with the results.

Another Baja Ha Ha 2012 cruiser Ken and Nancy on s\v Gitane a 38 IP who was dinghying into the beach at Chacala got capsized and lost his glasses to Davy Jones' locker. He went to the local optometrist and got a new pair, in fact three new pairs. They are the transition type and have coated lenses and frames and trifocal etc. For what he paid for three pairs of these glasses you could barely get one pair in the states.
We know of a dock master who is welcoming his brother to Mexico because his brother is getting some surgery done. He works for a large airline in the states but would pay more for the deductible on the insurance he has than the entire surgery here in Mexico and it includes a longer hospital stay.
And so it goes. We do not need any of this, yet, at least not now as we are in good health but know it is available if we do.
