This hatch strut has not been working for a while now.
Lucky there are two struts on these old ocean-going Bomar hatches. This one has the threads stripped out. There is no using a tap on it as the metal is too far gone. So a Helicoil to the rescue.
We did this in June 2018- Currently in Paradise Village Marina in Banderas Bay Mexico
July 2018 We are now in Ajijic, which is a town
by Lake Chapala Mexico, house sitting.
Because we do not have a set of Helicoil (s) and/or the tools,
we farmed this out to the stainless steel (SS) weld shop.
That is to say, a fabrication shop that does good boat work with SS.
This is what the right side of the Bomar hatch looks like.
Salvador dropped off the finished strut at out boat s\v Elegant'sea.
All finished and looking great. They did not damage any of the marine paint
