Commissioned Chava to do some varnishing. - 2024

Today we commissioned Chava to do some varnishing for us. That's right - I am passing on the varnishing brush. Mow that we are in La Paz as a home port it is time to let most of the varnishing go.March 2024 - ⛵ Chip & Debbie 💑 Currently in Marina Costa Baja in La Paz, Mexico

We started him off with a few projects that I have fallen behind on and a couple that we would like redone. First off is the forward eyebrow. It has gotten neglected by me, mostly because of medical reasons. Now it needs to be stripped and done over. He will do that and put on eight coats of Epifanes clear gloss varnish. The upper eyebrow I was able to save but it needs more coats and that will get them. The companionway boards we have never varnished and they need to be stripped and varnished. And our companionway hatch teak I messed up varnishing and have never fixed it. He will sand and fix it. Lastly the two teak companionway sliders (on top) need some coats and that will be done. We considered the price fair. I am particular about the varnishing and do not like any on the white gelcoat or anywhere else but the teak. So, this is kind of also a test to see how the work is done. I have looked at a couple of boats he has done and the work has been good, the people happy. If done to our liking then he will go on our list of boat maintenance professionals for keeping our home nice.
