Davit modifications for sailing with dingy on davits - 2014

Middle of February 2014 - La Cruz Anchorage in Banderas Bay, Mexico
We picked up a couple of ratcheting tie downs for the Kato Marine Island Davits at Home Depot in Puerto Vallarta.
These are not stainless steel like the ones we use daily for securing the Achilles LSI-310E dingy to the davits. However we will only use these for sailing with the dingy is on the davits with the motor on the dingy. We will be testing this out soon.
One end will be attached to the shackle at the end of the davit that holds the lifting block. The other to a place on the stern rail.
These two additional tie downs will hold the ends of the davits secure to the boat while healing in a rough bay. In winds of 20-25 knots and lumpy seas in Banderas Bay the weight of the dingy and motor could be an issue. These tie downs will take care of any healing weight and save us from having to tow the dingy behind us. Also removing the motor from the dingy as removing the motor is a bit time consuming and seeing as we will be just sailing for the day and then back to anchor where we would need to then set the dingy back up with the motor this saves all that.
