Cleaning our jib sheet winches, big job but way worth it! - 2013

Beginning of November 2013 - Currently in Paradise Village Marina in Banderas Bay Mexico
You can see a the gray flipper by my left hand.
This is the back side of the gear that houses the two flippers that click as you turn the winch. There are two of these gears, one for each speed and each has two flippers.
In a previous post you could see the two flippers in the bucket sitting in the gear.
Two people we have talked to lately said they never have removed the plate at the bottom of the winch, just flush it and grease. We removed the plate and there are a lot of needle bearings need the flippers and gears in there. They really need to be cleaned and greased, maybe not each time though? On guy, John on s\vEmerald Lady is having problems now with his winch and will be going all the way in this time.
This is a flipper I am cleaning and there is a spring that goes in it. That is the scary part. Spring goes boing and you are out a winch, or at least one speed.
