Our "Y" valve broke after ten or more years so we can be satisfied it gave us good use.  We hooked the wash down to just fresh water till we could get a new valve. It is nice to have the choice of fresh verses salt water to wash the anchor and rode. For instance in Barra de Navidad lagoon which is a mud/clay bottom it could tke twenty minutes to wash off the rode when  huling anchor. Obviously we would use the salt water for this. Most of the time we use fresh water as we do have a watermaker.
We purchased the valve from Fisheries Supply when we were in Seattle. The store is really big and well-stacked. We could have walked around for hours so we just made this quick purchase!
