Concept of fabrication for chartplotter mount - 2019

Our new Garmin GPSMAP 942 chart plotter is to replace our Garmin GPSMAP 740 chartplotter. The new one is 2 inches bigger. So that means we need to make a new mount for it on the binnacle.

In the video I failed to mention that without the chartplotter, we could not see the radar. We use the radar on night passages. We set a guard zone and have the radar spin up every 20 min and it will sound an alarm if there is anything in our guard zone radius. We also use radar when anchoring - we can see if there is anything in our swing zone.

October 2019 - s\v Elegant'sea is currently in Paradise Village Marina in Banderas Bay Mexico (by Puerto Vallarta)
This was our old Garmin GPSMAP 740 chartplotter mount that we created.
Well, not the black plastic part but the rest.
Our old Garmin GPSMAP 740 chartplotter with room to grab the binnacle.
This is the Starboard we used to attach the old chartplotter to the binnacle.
All removed now. We started by adding a couple of 1" stainless steel (SS) hinged tubing clamps we stole/borrowed from a solar panel brace on the stern rail.

Next we tried different ways of mounting the new Garmin GPSMAP 942 chart plotter
We ended up with this setup.
We had to take a few end caps from other places on the boat for the SS tubing .
The SS tubing is not cut to length and each piece is still a different length.
 So far, so good.
Now the wires to the Garmin GPSMAP 942 chart plotter are too short. They were originally for the old  Garmin GPSMAP 740 chartplotter and it was mounted closer to the binnacle and lower on the unit.
Debbie went down into the lazarett and found the wires coming out of the SS tubing that goes up to the binnacle. We ran those wires when we originally installed our new Garmin electronics.

Where the wires need to reach.

This is the power chord we need to cut off and replace.
This wire I cut off thinking it was the power chord.
Then I looked at the schematic after, realizing my mistake.
So now I have to put this wire back together - it is the
NMEA 2000 Garmin network cable, not the power cable.

A good work-in-progress!
