Got our new H3 Lewmar windlass working - 2010

March 2010 - At Marina Cortez Harbor Island, San Diego, CA

Old windless out!
Old windless.

This is the anchor locker with the old windlass removed. It was on top of the wood. Also you can see our 45 lb CQR will not fit in the anchor locker.

Original 3\8 BBB chain.

Just ordered the 35' cables for the Lewmar H3 Anchor Windlass. They go to the house battery bank.
 Rode size 9/16-5/8
1/16, 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, 11/16, 3/4, 13/16, 7/8, 15/16
A 10% drop in current is allowed. We got 2 AWG cables for this.
Got the cables from:
The cables will be cut shorter when we get the batteries set up in their final configuration.
Also installed the breaker in the head in a cabinet where it is not in your face but easy to get at.

We got our Lewmar H3 Anchor Windlass with 3/8 chain and 45# CQR anchor working this weekend. We did an anchor drop and pick up and the gypsy slipped at the bow roller when the anchor reached that point. We then tightened the clutch and it pulled the anchor up over real nice. Did it again without a problem. Anchor clears everything easily, bow pulpit and furler. We have only installed the hand wired remote so far for controlling the windlass. We will take some photos soon of the whole set up with the anchor at different points. A couple are attached of the initial install. We have not installed the emergency had retrieval system yet either. I think with a cockpit switch and a chain counter most of the anchoring could be done in the cockpit if need be. Also I plan on getting one of those key fob remotes, I like toys and think they are cool. Wonder if they work from the cockpit? And wonder how long before I loose it 😏. Any way got add a couple foot switches by gypsy and one up foot up switch by the rope drum.

On a side note:
Any idea what to do for a shackle for the Bruce 44# anchor look alike that is from Lewmar? I have tried a couple different ones that you would thing would fit but do not. The larger one it kinda fits but is a bit tight in the pin. It also is too big for the bow roller. The smaller one for the 3/8 chain does not fit over the anchor.
