Here is the response from Kato Marine regarding my thoughts on engineering the davits to closer inboard and not cutting them down.
"The recommended location for the davits on your boat is immediately inboard of the vertical legs of the stern rail toward the corners of the stern rail. The davits base will mount between the backstay and the base of the stern rail. I would not recommend mounting the davits mid-way between the vertical legs. Also, I don’t believe that it is possible to mount the davits outboard of the vertical leg as the railing begins its radius bend forward at that point.
The davit upper mount cannot be positioned below the strut that connects the 1” and 1-1/4” tubing as this would put too much leverage on the davit bases and your stern rail. The davits must be shortened 5-1/2” to fit on your boat (see sketch).
Oh well is guess there is more to think about.
