Anchored now in Tenacatita - January 2021

January 2021 -  Anchored now in Tenacatita. We saw a couple of whale shows, one on the way over and one by the anchorage. Some dolphins also. We did not need to change our location on the TeCel modem. Same as when we went to Bahia de Navidad from here...we did not need to change locations, just works fine.

On it goes with varnishing, my new hobby - 2021

Varnishing the caprail after moving the Ocean Kayak Malibu Two up off the racks and against the shrouds. Cannot do this very often in the lagoon as the winds pick or can just blow all day. We had 20-30 knots all day yesterday. A bit more work at anchor but we rather be at anchor then in a marina. Anyway, it is coming along just fine.

Installed new hatch lid rubber for sealing out the rain etc - 2021

First and, of course, the hard part was the prep. Debbie pulled out all the old rubber and cleaned up the area. Now we were ready to lay in the new rubber. It was fairly easy and we made sure we did not pull it tight especially around the corners. That, I think, is where I went wrong originally.

Bahia de Navidad Lagoon soundings taken by us as the bottom has shifted? - 2021

We made up a quick drop line to measure the depth. Not hard as it is less than 12' deep. Then we went to the boats that are on the back side of the lagoon and measured the depth at the bow of each one and where we thought we might swing to.

Now you can take the Ham Radio Exam online! - 2021

There are some apps and web sites offering study materials. But best of all the exam can now be taken online! Yes, at least for Technician and General class. I had studied before for the exams but could never find a place to take the exam. Even one summer in the US in Los Angeles but could not find a place to get tested. I gave up after a couple years. There was a person, "Bob" in Paradise Village Marina who gave the tests but only during the cruising season and we were always long gone cruising  Now (or in 2020) because of Covid, the test can be taken online so I am re-studying for the exams.

January 2021 - Anchored in the Bahia de Navidad Lagoon

Starboard Grabrail Varnish started - 2021

It took a total of about 6 hours to get the grabrail to the "ready to apply varnish stage".
It did go easier then I thought it would and came out nice.

New courtesy flag of Mexico purchased and grommets added - 2021

We purchased this flag at "Farmacia y Articulos de Pesca Zurich" in Barra de Navidad for about 2 to 3 times less than anywhere else we have seen them! They did not have grommets so Debbie added some.

Varnish prep outside of caprail in Barra de Navidad lagoon - 2021

We are anchored in the Bahia de Navidad Lagoon and while here in the flat lagoon, I am prepping the outside of the caprail using the dinghy...removing excess caulking and sanding then taping.

Replacing the hatch rubber on our stateroom hatch - 2021

Cannot believe we are just now getting to this project...guess we have time.
I don't think it is the rubber at fault - it was me who put it in wrong. I think I tried to make it stretch to fit so it leaks. Fortunately Downwind Marine still has new rubber. This hatch and the head hatch only leak in a heavy downpour. When we get heavy rain we cover the hatches.
