Replaced the macerator through hull - 2021

Luis, his two sons and the diver Miguel removed the old 1 1\2 inch through hull out. Lots of banging and cutting but it came out and our new one went in. New through hull, valve and elbow - all working and not leaking. Took about two hours to do the job. We greased the new valve up first. Luis talked to his son (who was on deck) through the hatch who then talked to the diver in the water.

We did another Merlin II test because I thought possibly there may have been a loose connection or something else going on last time and I really wanted the Merlin II to work.

We had to replace a 5-amp fuse on the AC side to get the box to work again. It is inside the box. The DC side takes a 10-amp fuse. These are the small automotive type of blade fuses. It probably blew when the Controller for the compressor went bad.

The new LED steaming\deck light is mounted and working. The light is mounted up high (previous owner) so the deck light really only lights the sail head sail up good. That’s ok as it is useful. But for a fore deck light we needed more.

Our latest project - replacing the valve 1 1/2 inch macerator through hull valve gave us an excuse to clean out the area. We had a lot of plumbing supplies from 15 years of projects and lots of spare hoses and remnants etc.

After about 10 years we need to replace a 1 1/2 inch through hull valve. The through hull is under water but we put this through hull and valve in ourselves up in San Diego while at the dock. Not sure why it failed yet but more will be revealed when we remove the valve. I do think we are going to farm this project out, at 75 I getting some help with the space challenging work.

New Starboard Atlas Extra paddle board fins - 2021

While in the us we bought two new 4.5 inch thruster fins and a 10 inch fin for the center. There was an 8 inch center fin on the Starboard Atlas Extra when we bought it used. I think the fin was a bit small for the 12 foot board so I installed the new (inexpensive) fins. This I believe is the largest board by Starboard that you can surf.

Frigoboat system went down. controller modular burnt out - 2021

Our Frigoboat system went down. After much testing we found it to be the controller modular. Costal Climate Control helped us with the trouble shooting.

Our new (replacement) Garmin radar is working great! - 2021

Our new Garmin GMR 18 xHD radar dome is working great! It has been about two years since we have had a working radar. One year it worked on/off and the next it died. We brought the radar dome down in a suitcase (bearly fit) and tested it while it was sitting on the deck. Worked great.

The other day we had a good lunch at La Cruz Inn with Sam and Dave from s/v Islena (which they are selling). The boat was in the yard for final inspection by the buyers etc. We are happy and sad at the same time, as we are sure they are. We have known them for many years from the same dock in San Diego to here in Mexico.

Finished off Clark pump rebuild of the Spectra Ventura 200T water maker - 2021

Finished off our Clark pump rebuild of the Spectra Ventura 200T water maker. The piston rod took a little sanding on one end to make a chamfer so we could get it through the seals. Also we replaced the plastic spring washers with new stainless steel ones on the check valves. All new "O" rings for the check valves and etc. That finished it off. All done now and ready for the piston cylinders to be reinstalled. We will do that at the boat and put in the new membrane when we get back.

The FitBit Inspire 2 did not work out for me as the data was too far off. So I returned it and purchased a FitBit Charge 4 which has a GPS built in and so that data will be correct. Got a decent deal because there is a new model out the FitBit Charge 5.

This new inflatable fender we purchased is 10x26 - (CAE0100-1026-WHT). They did not make this size when we originally purchased our other inflatable fenders. Their web site is not that great (AERE Docking Solutions). Our original fenders are 12x29. The one we just purchased is 10x26 and is not listed on the AERE site in an inflatable fender. We purchased this fender from LRSE (Life Raft and Survival Equipment).

It has been a while but we again did some more work on the Spectra Ventura 200T water maker.

Years ago we had a custom tool made to make it easier to get the cylinders off. A extension with a Allen head wrench welded on. We had this done down in Zihuatanejo, Mexico.
