Our Island model davits need to be shortened 5-1/2” to fit our boat.
We will tell our fabricator that there is an additional tube welded to the inside of each davit (on davits less than 10 years old). When the base is cut off, this tube will be cut free. It will have to be spot welded in place prior to welding the ball/socket bases back on the davits.
We will try Benchmark Welding first and if he is not in a good mood then we will go to Thomas marine for a quote.
“When shortening the davits, cut off the base about 1/8" above the weld. Remove the inner tube. Measure from the bottom of the davit up 5-1/2", cut the davit and reweld the inner tube in place. Now re-weld the ball/socket to the davit. It is important to reweld the inner tube in place before welding the bottom (do not discard this tube). “
