About five months on the hook, up and down the coast and tomorrow we are going into a marina. We are currently in the Bahia de Navidad Lagoon and will go into the Marina Puerto de la Navidad(Barra Marina) . Then in 3-4 weeks we will head North again. We like being on the hook yet summer rates and the weather changing (hotter) makes the marina more practical starting May 1st.
The Mermaid Marine Air 5200 btu unit we did not long ago but because the water came out so dirty we decided to flush it again. We did get a bit more out. We also put in a new stainless steel sea strainer as the old one had some gaps.
The companionway is getting stripped and sanded and varnished. Sounds easy but of course we know it is a long process. I would like to get it done before it is HVAC time when the weather gets hot. Then we will be using the doors etc and that will make it harder.
Not much wind but a beautiful day and nice seas. We had the main reefed so it would not flog itself but there was enough wind at about 5 knots or so to keep it from flogging. The wind was also on our nose and it was not supposed to be.
s\v Elegant'sea - Anchored at Cabeza Negra - North. Another nice day at sea and we just had a nice late lunch. Flopper stopper down and seas have calmed. Good breeze and nice cloud cover. It's cooling off nicely. Anchored in 28 feet of water. All good. Next stop tomorrow will be Santiagoor Las Hadas? March 2020
Wow, what a difference in temperature!! In Zihuatanejo, went to bed at 83 degrees F and sweating then woke up to 81 degrees F. Now we're going to bed at 79 degrees F and not sweating then woke up to 72 degrees F. The water temperature in Zihua was a "dive-in" ready at 86 degrees F yet here, it's a "toe-in" at 76 degrees F...brrr. The anchor chain stays a lot cleaner though😆
So, I am washing the chain while hauling anchor and all of a sudden the wash-down stopped working. At first I thought it was the pump but Debbie thought the thru-hull got clogged, maybe with a plastic bag.
This has been an ongoing project. The arms are now ready to use though. The old arms are off the boat and that's good. This project started about 5 years ago.
This is the last of three coats I put on with a different brand of varnish, Epifanes clear varnish . This was the hard part for both caprails, now just a couple coats here and there to replace what the sun takes. No removing anything and hardly any taping required!.
