After doing a lot of research on mounting the wind generator and the types of poles and base mounts and prices we thought we would just purchase the base pole mount from somewhere and then proceed from there. Then we could get a stern mount made of SS and made to fit the base pole mount.
We have thought about making the parts ourselves and a dock mate has done just that. We do not have all that much free time and am not sure it would really save us all that much money. Not at least on the mounting kit. Maybe on the pole and support poles.
After looking online at South West Wind Powers pole options we decide they had probably the most reasonable in terms of price and they even explained how to make your own in their PDF.
We called South West Wind Power (windenergy.com) and asked to order the pole base mount. They said they do not carry that but they have dealers that do.
Now they referred us to Downwind Marine! So I called them and sure enough they sell the setup. I had seen the setup many times before in the store but just thought the Air X was on a piece of PVC pipe for display :)
All stainless steel hardware with self-locking nuts.
Tilting mast base for easy installation and access.
Fully adjustable stay anchor base mounts.
Specially designed built-in vibration dampening mounts to minimize noise transmission.
Can be installed on transom or deck in a few hours.
Designed to withstand hurricane force winds.
At a few hundred dollars it seems the way to go and that will get the mounting kit.
That excludes the pole and two support poles. We could use electric conduit pipe and then get it powder coated or SS for the poles. Or we could just buy the pole kit at a few hundred more. Would make the install a lot easier as the holes are pre-drilled etc.
Here is another place online that sells the mount for about the same thing altestore.com
They can get quite pricey at over $1000.00 at some places for SS not including shipping charges.
So probably with our account and shipping costs it will be about the same as buying it online if we buy it at Downwind marine so we guess that is the next step.
The point here is we need to get a stern mount made and we would like the holes pr-drilled into the mount for the wind generator pole mounting hardware. That is hard to do unless you know what you are going to use to mount the pole!
